The behavior of an automatic lathe (usually a metalworking machine) is automatic control. Although all electronic controlled (CNC) lathes are automatic, they are not usually called by this name, such as "universal nomenclature." A mechanical automation of a lathe, from the 1870s to the 1950s and 1960s with the advent of NC and CNC. Numerical control has not completely replaced mechanical automation machine. The latter type of machine tool is no longer newly established, but many existing examples are still in service.
Due to the historical track of machine tool technology development and the term "automatic lathe" used in natural language, at least in the UK, it is quite the same that the way of manufacturing laymen may expect is not stratification. The term "automatic lathe" is also often used in the early sense of production, referring to the automatic lathe of non CNC machine tools. A mechanical automation of an automatic lathe (its control is by means of cams or tracers and pantographs). Therefore, in electronic automation through digital control, PLC and so on, "automatic" automatic machine tool has always been called mechanical automation.
The earliest mechanical automatic lathe was geometric lathe. These include rose engine lathes and others. In the age of machines in the industrial environment, "automatic lathe" refers to the chuck of mechanical screw machine (discussed below), in which a large number of various types, brands, and models are established.
Because of the maturity of numerical control technology, the implicit dichotomy of "manual" and "automatic" still exists, but because of the ubiquity of numerical control technology, the term "automatic" has lost some of its distinguishing capabilities. All CNC machines are automatic, but (perhaps as a result) the use of the machining industry does not often call them. "Automatic", when it is used, usually refers to the machine operated by cam. Therefore, an "old" two axis CNC lathe is not called an "automatic lathe" (although it is, literally, automatic). However, in the Swiss type [CNC turning center processing specialty, "automatic" is often the free use of cam OP as in CNC (for example, DMG Mori [5] and zingshang call them "Swiss type CNC automatic lathe").
Small to medium-sized automatic lathes, usually called screw type or fully automatic lathes. When these machine parts work, (as a rough guide only) they are usually less than 80 mm (3.1) in diameter and less than 300 mm (12 inches) in length. Screw machines almost always do bar work, which means that the entire length of the bar (anywhere from 1 to 4 meters (3.3 to 13.1 feet) is transferred through the spindle and chuck (usually a chuck is clamped). Due to the machining of the parts, the entire length of the bar stock is being turned with the spindle. When part is done, it's a "separate" bar, clamp or not, the bar is the Fed, and the plate then closes again, ready for the next cycle. With various means, including pull rod and pull or roll rod feeding, push bar from behind, bar bar bar, various means can occur.
Large cam operated automatic lathes are (still are) commonly known as automatic chuck lathes, automatic lathes, automatic chucks, downwind and downwater, or chucks. Part of the name "Chuck" is from the fact that workpieces are usually discrete blanks, held in boxes called "magazines" and each person takes turns in being chucked (shrouded in machine work) and cut. (it's a similar way that semi-automatic pistol magazines get loaded for each round of ammunition.) Blank the individual forgings or castings, or their pre saw blanks. However, some members of this machine tool family turn bar work or work center (for example, Fay automatic lathe) for large-diameter bar work (for example, 150 mm (5.9) or more), it is just an academic point of view whether it is called "screw machine work" or "automatic".
